RHYTHM AND BLUES was said to have been a term created by Jerry Wexler of Billboard magazine in 1948 as a more digestible substitute for “Race Music”.
HUEY PIANO SMITH was a Beach Club regular at Myrtle Beach’s #1 concert venue, created by Cecil and Charlie Corbett. Huey gave us several rockin beach music classics. Rockin Pneumonia, Don’t You Just Know It, Twas The Night Before Christmas, Don’t you Know Yockomo, High Blood Pressure. For most of those years we thought it was Huey Piano Smith on lead but it was usually the eccentric cross-dressing Bobby Marchand on vocals and Huey on the piano. Guess that’s why they nicknamed him, Piano.
