Long Play Vinyl

Those first LONG PLAY VINYL (78 rpm) albums running $2 were mostly marketed to families, the affluent, the older market. Very little Beach Music. Best Selling albums of the 1950s were Sinatra, Belafonte, Johnny Mathis, Elvis, musical soundtracks, Christmas albums and several religious albums. So it wasn’t kids buying most albums. It was mama and daddy. Mercury became the 1st record company to dump the 78 rpm in 1958.
