RHYTHM AND BLUES was said to have been a term created by Jerry Wexler of Billboard magazine in 1948 as a more digestible substitute for “Race Music”.
Originally written in Spanish by Nilo Menendez in 1929... This torchy song was a mucho hit for Xavier Cugat and a #1 hit for Jimmy Dorsey. But it’s the sexy one-in-a-million bass voice of Jimmy Ricks of the Ravens we honor into the Beach Music Hall of Fame. Very few songs in music history had a richer bass lead and maybe none more memorable to our Carolina dancers.
“Greeeen eyes...your eyes that promise sweet nights.
Bring to my soul a longing
For a thirst so diviiiine”
This groovy classic was released in 1955 and sent a million pegged-pants and penny loafers to the wooden dance floors...GREEN EYES by the RAVENS.
