After his parents died at 11, IVORY JOE HUNTER dropped out of school to help support his 14 siblings and took up music. His first recording was Stagolee a cylinder record for the Library of Congress in 1933. Had his own radio show in the 1940s. Then in his 40s, the little bespectacled, balding piano man crooned us some of the huggiest, smoochiest Beach Music songs of all time, like I Almost Lost My Mind, Empty Arms and Since I Met You Baby which started a million wedding first dances. In 1960 he bought some boots and became a country singer.
